Background
In conjunction with the first Singapore Toy & Comic Convention 2008, the organizer PI Events and costume specialists Movie Mania are holding the CosCon @ Singapore Toy & Comic Convention 2008 for fans of all things otaku and pop-culture!
Competition Themes
In line with the international flavour of the Convention, the Competition will fall under two main themes over the course of two days (i.e. Saturday and Sunday, 28 – 29 June):
a) MOVIE (Single & Group/Family)
b) ANIME (Single & Group/Family)
The MOVIE theme will include entries from Western pop-culture (e.g. characters from Superman, Star Wars characters, Harry Potter, Lara Croft of Tomb Raider etc.). Contestants may choose to dress up in costumes related to Western comics, cartoons, gaming and other common mediums of pop-culture.
The ANIME theme will include entries from Japanese pop-culture (e.g. Naruto, Cloud of Final Fantasy, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, Pokemon, Death Note, Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evagelion etc.). Contestants may also choose to dress up in costumes related to Japanese manga and gaming as well.

Prizes
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for all categories in the CosCon (i.e. MOVIE Single, MOVIE Group/Family, ANIME Single and ANIME Group/Family). Competing alongside fellow pop-culture fans will put you in the running to win Animax goodie bags and attractive cash prizes!

Photographs of the winners and their winning costumes will be showcased on this website from July 1st onwards.

Competition registration will begin on 10 April 2008. To register, please send the following information to coscon@moviemania.com.sg. All registration emails should be titled as “CosCon (Singapore Toy & Comic Convention 2008) Registration”.

Walk-in registrations on the Event days are also welcome at Movie Mania’s booth (B13), but we advise that contestants register online beforehand to secure their placement in the competition.
Judging
Contestants will face two rounds of judging: (1) by judges and (2) by audience and judges. There will be a total of three (3) judges presiding over the competition. Two (2) judges will be provided by Movie Mania and will possess extensive knowledge of anime and movies. The third judge will be provided by either the Organizer or prize sponsors.

Competition Mechanics
- Contestants are to ready 30mins before stage time (i.e. 1:30pm).
- Contestants will be introduced on stage one at a time.
- Contestants will introduce themselves and the characters they are cosplaying
- They will be given 10 seconds to strike poses for the cameras and convince the judges to keep them for the 2nd round.
- Judges will be given some time to deliberate on which 10 contestants to keep.
- Contestants will be eliminated 2 at a time.
- The remaining 10 contestants will be given more stage time to act out their roles and impress both the judges and the audience.
- Judges will interact and eliminate contestants 1 at a time.
- With the 5 remaining contestants, the emcees will ask contestants the important question, “Why do you think you deserve to win?”
- Audience members will be asked for their response on each contestant which carry a 20% weightage on the final score
- Judges will retire and deliberate on the final 3 winners.
- Once the Judges made their decision, the contestants will be brought back to stage and the final winners announced.
CosCon Photo-taking Sessions
An hour before and an hour after CosCon, Movie Mania will provide some off-stage activities.
- Movie Mania will be inviting all to come in costume, even if they did not register for the competition
- Movie Mania will provide a backdrop and a photographer at the Movie Mania booth (B13) to provide professional photography for anyone in costume.
- This service will be provided free for the duration of the competition (i.e. 1:00 – 5:00pm)
